14th Lasallian Scholarum Awards honor outstanding coverage of youth and education stories

The Board of Judges meeting for this year’s Lasallian Scholarum Awards (LSA) themed “@youthPHL: Empowering the next generation through stories on youth & education” culminated last September 18 in De La Salle University, Manila.

This year’s Board of Judges is composed of Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara, Al Jareera English News Correspondent Marga Ortigas, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. Trustee Raissa Posadas-Hechanova, Yellow Boat of Hope Co-Founder Jay Jaboneta, and DLSU University Student Government President Mikee De Vega.

Now on its 14th year, the Lasallian Scholarum Awards aims to give recognition to outstanding coverage of youth and education stories by professional and campus journalists.

 The LSA has seven categories.  For nationally circulated publications featuring youth and education concerns, the categories are 1) Outstanding feature article; 2) Outstanding column article; 3) Outstanding photograph; 4) and Outstanding feature story on De La Salle University.

 The other categories are outstanding feature on youth and education appearing in 5) National broadcast; 6) Campus publications, and 7) Online publications. 

 Awardees will receive a sculpture designed by renowned artist Daniel Dela Cruz. The LSA will take place this October 23, 11 am, at De La Salle University.

 

DLSU holds 12th Lasallian Scholarum Awards to honor PHL’s best youth and education stories

In pursuit of its advocacy to promote the country’s youth and education sectors, De La Salle University held the 12th Lasallian Scholarum Awards for outstanding media coverage last September 14, 2015 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

The Lasallian Scholarum Awards, with this year’s theme “#nofilter,” celebrates the truthful and fearless coverage of youth and education stories while challenging the public to seek creative and collaborative solutions to the issues at the heart of the news.

This year’s winners are: “Titser” by ANC for Outstanding Televised Feature Story on Youth and Education; “Muslim Kid” by  Manila Bulletin’s Linus Guardian Escandor III for Outstanding Published Photograph on Youth and Education; “Kukunin Ka ng Bumbay and Other Childhood Lessons on Race and Gender“ by Rappler.com’s Shakira Sison for Online Feature Story for Youth and Education; “DepEd chief to Bilibid grads: We’re not that different” by The Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Jovic Yee for Outstanding Published Feature Article on Youth and Education in a Nationally-circulated Publication; and “Our education reforms will work if…” by The Philippine Star’s Preciosa Soliven for Outstanding Published Column Article on Youth and Education. The winners from these categories each received P25, 000.00.

“A look into CHED Memo No. 20-2013: The End of Language?” by The Lasallian  won the Outstanding Published Feature Article on Youth and Education in a School Organ received P15,000.00. The grand prize winner for Outstanding Feature Story on De La Salle University is “This professor lights up their lives” by Jayson Mangalus of Manila Bulletin.  He received P40,000.00.

The winners from professional media outfits also received a sculpture especially designed and crafted by renowned sculptor, Daniel Dela Cruz. Sponsored by the De La Salle University’s Office for Strategic Communications, the Lasallian Scholarum Awards contracted an independent media-monitoring agency for the screening of youth and education news and features.

This year’s board of judges is composed of Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara, former Congresswoman Lorna Verano, acclaimed filmmaker and former Executive Director of Rock Ed Philippines Pepe Diokno, DLSU University Student Government President Carlo Inocencio, and DLSU Office for Strategic Communications Executive Director Jose Mari Magpayo.

History Teacher Training Workshop | October 19, 2013

THE DEPARTMENT OF History of the College of Liberal Arts, in cooperation with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission, invites everyone to DLSU-HISTORY Teacher Training Workshop for Araling Panlipunan 2013. This will be held on October 19, 2013 (Saturday) at 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Yuchengco Seminar Rooms 507-509.

The DLSU-History Teacher Training Workshop for Araling Panlipunan 2013 is the History Department’s contribution to the Araling Panlipunan teachers’ preparation for compliance with curricular changes called for by the new K TO 12 Law. In particular, the DLSU-History Teacher Training Workshop for Araling Panlipunan 2013 will zero in on strengthening the subject-matter competencies of Araling Panlipunan teachers at the basic education level teaching Local History, Philippine History I and II, and Sources in Philippine History, considering that the new curriculum will make the following disciplinal-specific demands on the competencies of the teachers, especially:

2nd Annual Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Awards | October 1, 2013

AS A HIGHLIGHT of the celebration of National Teachers Month, all teaching and non-teaching faculty members are enjoined to participate in the Annual Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Awards on October 1, 2013 (Tuesday), 3:00 – 4:30 pm, at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium.

Faculty members with outstanding contributions for their teaching, research, or community engagement activities will be recognized during the program.

Departments that have performed well in research, attendance, and student evaluation will also be honored. Likewise, the winner of the Students’ Search for Outstanding Teachers will be named on the said event.

To encourage more faculty to attend the recognition program, it has been recommended by the organizing committee to suspend classes from 2:40 to 5:50pm.

Student Exchange Program: Universite Catholique de Lille (France) | Spring Term 2013-14

THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER would like to announce the opening of the application period for the Spring Term 2013-2014 Universite Catholique de Lille (France) Student Exchange Program. The program will run from January to May/June 2014.

Qualifications:

1. Must be a native born Filipino citizen
2. Must be at least 18 years old by December 01, 2013
3. Must preferably have a valid passport up to at least December 30, 2014
4. Must be fit to travel
5. Must have completed at least 3 trimesters of study in De La Salle University on the date of application
6. Must be a bonafide student of De La Salle University on the date of application
7. Must have at least one academic trimester left in De La Salle University upon return from the program
8. Must have a CGPA of at least 2.75/4.0

The 10th annual Lasallian Scholarum Awards honor “Voices that Matter” in Philippine journalism

Manila, Philippines — The Board of Judges meeting for this year’s Lasallian Scholarum Awards aptly themed “Voices that Matter” culminated at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel last August 14.

This year’s Board of Judges is comprised of Congresswoman Emmeline Aglipay, noted journalist Margarita Ortigas of Al Jazeera English, President and CEO of Museo Pambata Dr. Cristina Lim-Yuson, DLSU’s Jose Miguel Moreno, and Adarna House VP Ani Rosa Almario.

DLSU holds free SIGWA Weather Workshop | August 2-3, 2013

THE DE LA SALLE University Air Weather Observation System (DLSU-AWOS) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor Office for Research and Innovation Challenge Grant Project, University Research Coordination Office, and the DLSU Center for Natural Science and Environmental Research will be holding its 1st Workshop on the Students Involved in Geophysical, Weather, and Atmospheric studies (SIGWA) on August 2-3, 2013, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the 20th floor of Andrew Building Multi-Purpose Hall.

Based on the K-12 curriculum, we are going to train (2) Science teachers who are handling Grade 6, 8, and 9 specifically on topics pertaining to Weather patterns in the Philippines, Understanding Typhoons, and Climate. For those who have no background, there will be another workshop for beginners.
