De La Salle Debate Society and J-7 Armed Forces of the Philippines to hold 1st Philippine Collegiate Peace Debates

THE DE LA SALLE Debate Society (DLDS) in partnership with the J-7 Armed Forces of the Philippines (J-7, AFP) are set to host the inaugural Philippine Collegiate Peace Debates (PCPD) this September 14 to 16 at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Twenty of the best debate institutions from all over the country are set to participate in this event. Ateneo de Manila, University of the Philippines Diliman, Mapua Institute of Technology, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines Manila, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, San Beda College, University of the Philippines Los Banos, University of Sto. Tomas, Philippine Military Academy, Xavier University, Ateneo de Naga University, Western Mindanao State University, University of the Philippines Visayas Miag-ao, University of the Philippines Cebu, University of the Philippines Baguio, Ateneo de Davao University, St. Louis University, and the University to Tacloban will be part of the first ever PCPD.  All invited debate institutions are qualified to vie for the title and cash prize.

The PCPD aims to provide a venue where national peace and security issues can be discussed while sparking intelligent discourse on peace and Filipino patriotism. The tournament also wishes to raise the youth’s awareness about the Philippines’ national peace and security issues. High school and college students from all over Manila are invited to watch championship round of the tournament, which will take place on September 16 at the AFP Theater.

Forum: Defending Human Rights through Media Law | August 28-29, 2013

The DLSU College of Law and Asian Law Students’ Association invite everyone to the forum entitled, “Uniting the Voice of Asia: Defending Human Rights through Media Law.” Keynote Speaker will be Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno. This will be held on August 28-29, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium.

The Forum will cover topics such as cyber-libel and cyber-bullying, identity theft and the issue of privacy, perpetration of sexual offenses, piracy and hacking, and censorship and freedom of information and speech.

Renewed Call for Transparency and Accountability: Mass Action at Luneta on August 26, 2013

THE COMMITTEE ON National Issues and Concerns (CONIC) joins the Lasallian Justice and Peace Commission (LJPC) in its renewed call for Transparency and Accountability in government, particularly in the use of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or Pork Barrel.

We invite all sectors of our community to join the Lasallian contingent that will march towards Luneta on August 26, 2013 (Monday) and engage in the group discussions that will be conducted by the facilitators of LJPC.

DLSU College of Law offers free seminar on international commercial law

DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY opens its campus for a free seminar on common law governing commercial contracts and business transactions in the global market with DLSU College of Law Visiting Professor Atty. Lee Mason on July 30, 2013, 2-4 p.m., at the Gonzalez-Fajardo Theater of the DLSU Br. Andrew Gonzalez Hall.

Atty. Mason, deputy director of Juris Doctor program of the University of Hong Kong, is the author of the current leading text on Hong Kong Contract Law. A Barrister, he was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2005. He is also a Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) accredited mediator, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

DLSU Election Eye to launch on May 8, 2013

IN LINE WITH the upcoming 2013 midterm elections, the Lasallian community is encouraged to be part of the DLSU Election Eye. This initiative aims:

  • to establish a web-based system that will monitor the 2013 midterm elections
  • to provide transparency to the whole Lasallian community through reports that will be shown in the website
  • to assist different government agencies such as Commission on Election (COMELEC) and Philippine National Police (PNP) in handling election-related concerns before, during and after the elections.
  • to connect social media and SMS in gathering information about the elections
  • to gather information that will be used for the Election 2013 study to be conducted by the  Center for Social Concern and Action

Voter’s Educational Campaign | May 10, 2013

PLEASE BE INFORMED that the scheduled Voter’s Educational Campaign scheduled on May 4, 2013 (Saturday), is moved to May 10, 2013 (Friday), from 9AM to 12noon at the Yuchengco Seminar Room 408 (Y408), to be facilitated by the Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA). Led by the Center for Social Concern and Action, the multi-sectoral initiatives on Voters’ Education Campaign are participated in by the University Student Government, Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance, College of Law, and Political Science Department.
